Madison County will again serve as an official verification site for youth planning to exhibit at the 2008 Iowa State Fair (ISF). Any youth planning to exhibit market animals at the ISF MUST complete the verification process, including nose print and DNA sample collection. A cost of $5 per animal will also be collected at the time of verification. A parent and the 4-H member must sign the verification forms. If either cannot be present at the time of verification, a waiver must be obtained from the Madison County Extension office and presented with the animal(s) at the time of weigh-in.
Ak-Sar-Ben
Ak-Sar-Ben also requires DNA samples, along with a nose print for all market beef whishing to enter the Ak-Sar-Ben Livestock Exposition. The Iowa 4-H program and Ak-Sar-Ben have a sharing agreement for the DNA samples. Iowa 4-H beef will be processed in the same manner as ISF verified market beef. However, animals being nominated for the ISF and Ak-Sar-Ben will pay an additional $1 per animal. Animals being nominated for Ak-Sar-Ben only will pay $5 per animal.
